The Question

A cosmological argument is an argument in which the existence of a unique being, generally seen as some kind of god, is deduced from facts concerning causation of the universe as a whole or processes within it. It is traditionally known as an argument from universal causation.
This song specifically focuses on the Leibnizian cosmological argument of a “Sufficient Reason” for the universe and the Kalam Cosmological Argument.

“The first question which should rightly be asked,” wrote Leibniz, “will be, Why is there something rather than nothing?” That is, why does anything at all exist?”
-William Lane Craig Reasonable Faith (99) quoting Leibniz “Nature and Grace” in Selections (527)

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
-John 1:1-5 ESV

The empty dark, the nothingness
The vast expanse so still
Then bursting forth a blazing light
Shining for the first time
Do you ever wonder how it happened?
Do you question why it exists?

Why is there something rather than nothing?
If there’s a beginning why’d it begin?
Give me a reason or some explanation for
Why is there something rather nothing?

The universe of dust and stars
near and far, so far
The blackest seas, the unknown deep
the mystery of the first light
Tell me who set the cosmos in motion?
Are they the reason why we exist?

Why is there something rather than nothing?
If there’s a beginning why’d it begin?
Give me a reason or some explanation for
Why is there something rather nothing?

Could a holy breath turn dark to light?
Were the pieces placed by a matchless mind?
Am I one small speck in a great design
Asking for answers to the question…

Why is there something rather than nothing?
If there’s a beginning why’d it begin?
Give me a reason or some explanation for
Why is there something rather nothing?
Why is there something rather than nothing?
Why is there something rather than nothing?
