My daddy told me long ago, “don’t hold your breath,
if you open up an envelope that says that you won a jet.”
He hadn’t gotten his yet
and if they called me on the phone and said that I was the one
out of twenty thousand others who had come and gone before,
they’re probably skewing the score
Yeah I was born a little bit trusting
but this affront to my intelligence is so disguisting

If it feels like something’s too good to be true then it is
That celebrity was only married fifty two days
and that junk you bought off TV doesn’t do what it says it would
but you’re still hoping it could
Shoulda figured it was gonna be more “sham” than “wow”
and did you hear about the prince who needs some help with his bank account
we gotta get his money out

but I’ve had it up to here with people trying to fool me
